Speak up, then whisper

Always been told
To raise your voice
And make yourself been heard

“Don’t be shy
Come on, speak up
Express your thoughts more freely”

“State your opinion
Voice your thoughts”
You’re drowned out in this room of other voices.

You’re quiet around strangers
But noisy when at home
You think you’ve finally struck the perfect balance

When you open up
You’re no longer shy and silent
But still known to have that silent demeanour

As time’s passed
What has changed
When did you get so much less inhibited?

You’ve lost that quiet air
You freely speak your mind
And now the chorus goes

Be quiet
Don’t shout
Use your indoor voice
You’ve become so very loud
