A New Home (2)

Eager hands grabbing.
Petting the little babies
One by one.
Choosing 2 of 5.

A litter they can’t keep.
Too many sweet kittens
Without a forever home.
Now two are safe.

In a large round basket
Little squeaks
As they clamber all over each other.

New house, new smells
New food and water and litter.
So much new to see and do.
Just for them, there’s so much new.

The little boy, no longer baby of the house
The mother who provides food and drink
A warm dad’s lap to sleep on
They lick each other for comfort
Warmth, comfort, happiness
They’ve found a new home.
